This urban legend has only recently become known in India because of a movie: Stree (2018). The movie displayed the whole urban legend as a kind of horror/comedy basis. But this was prominent in the 1990's in Bengaluru (present day Banglore), in the state of Karnataka.

Legend says that during the first four days of Navratri (a hindu festival), a witch descends in Bengaluru. Every night, she knocks on every door in the vicinity, and if a male answers it, he is murdered within the next twenty four hours. But why do people answer to a knock on the door late at night? The witch calls the male with the voice of a loved one.

To protect themselves from the wrath of the witch, men dress up like women at night, avoid staying outdoors and also, write "Nale Ba" outside their homes. Nale Ba (Kannada) translates to "Come tomorrow". The witch reads the sign, and then comes back the next night to find the same note. This cycle is repeated for the remaining days. And the coming years.

This was dominant in Banglore only for a few years, and is nothing more than an urban legend now.
