Tenth A

"Everyone knows about the ghost in Tenth A." Said Jake calmly, as though he met the so-called "ghost" every night. Every tenth grader in the whole school knew about the tenth A thing. They were so scared that they shifted into whole other rooms for the Night study hours. Our school was downright a little horror town in itself. It was said to be built in an ancient graveyard, and, as expected, very little believed it and very little didn't talk about it. Bu this one episode had caught everyone's eye. Even the teachers.

The night before, when the tenth grade nobody, Rady was left alone in tenth A studying, he thought he caught a foul smell in the air all of a sudden. When he looked behind him, he saw in the corner of a room a man watching him intently. His face was half burned and he was at least a good six feet tall. Rady, a nerd and completely ignorant to both the existence of gods and devils, was rattled and he was found passed out in the class that morning. The janitor claimed that the door was locked from the outside, so there was no way Rady could have gotten inside after it was locked. Of course, instead of going towards a rational explanation, our typical school population made even the teachers believe that there was a ghost in the room, and it was cursed until the building fell down.

Jake, who was the stuntman of the group, suggested that we go check it out that night itself. I was the nobody in the group, and of course, a bigger bully was going to "request me personally". I decided to overlook the fact that they were tougher, and I was not going to be the puppet this time. I argued with Jake for quite some time, before he eventually agreed to let me be a lookout. I told him that I would only help him get out of the hostel and then go back to sleep. Or else, I would rat him out. Only I knew that Jake wanted to keep his image intact through the whole of high school. He flinched and then frowned. I had won, so I headed back to my room without another word.

Night came sooner than expected, at least in my case. Mike woke me up, and in a dizzy, I went down. Our gate wasn't all that hard to pass through. So, soon, he was on the other side of the gate. The wrong side, according to me. I woke up about five hours later, at three o'clock. My roommate was shaking me like crazy. The lights were on in our room. I woke up slowly. The whole hostel was in a frenzy. It was as if there was something like a fire going on. But, there was no fire.

I sat up in bed and asked him what the problem was. His voice trembled with fear as he uttered the words "Jake". My eyes got wide. Was he busted? More importantly, was I busted? " Jake what?" I said, striving to sound indifferent. He broke down as he said between gasps of breath, "He went to tenth A." My heart skipped a beat. "And?" I continued. He whimpered. "You wouldn't believe it... Just go look for yourself.." I jumped out of bed and headed to his room. About half of the boys in school were there already, all looking at a small, awkward figure in the middle of the room. And then I caught a flash of the figure- Jake. His face was half scorched, bright red, and his eyes were red and popping out. He vomited, and blood was all that came out. I nearly gagged just looking at his face. I am not the toughest guy on the block. But then, his eyes locked onto mine. He gave me a smile. And then he fainted. I didn't know what that meant then, and I wasn't interested in the slightest to know. We found out two weeks later that he had died right in that bedroom. The next day, I found a note in my geography notebook. It read:

Was that just a lucky move?

-Jake
